It may take a while to adapt to using a mouth guard so start slowly. If you have a mouth guard for both your top and bottom teeth, you can start by alternating between the two. You can also begin using it every third night, then every other night, etc. 


Maybe try wearing it occasionally during the day. If you use it while doing something easy, like watching TV or reading, it will help you get used to it.
