The goal of sleep restriction therapy is to encourage a better match between actual sleep time and time spent in bed. This allows you to regain sufficient sleep pressure, fall asleep faster, reduce nocturnal awakenings and understand how many hours you really need.
It's a very effective technique known to improve the depth and regularity of sleep rather than quantity. If you don't go through the restriction, you decrease your chances of seeing fast, long-lasting results because your real needs will be harder to identify.
